[Due Oct 30, 2026] Shark BreatheClear HP162J

[Due Oct 30, 2026] The HP162J is a low-upkeep 15-tatami newcomer

With an air purifier, upkeep decides whether you keep using it. The HP162J drops humidifying on purpose to cut how often you maintain it.

The pre-filter needs a wash every two months, and Shark rates the HEPA filter for six years without replacement. It covers 15 tatami and weighs 3.8kg.

As an IT consultant (SE), I read the footnote before the headline number. The six years here is an estimate for 12 hours a day at maximum airflow, and I treat it that way.

How I judged it

First, coverage and speed. It covers 15 tatami and cleans 8 tatami in 17 minutes. The 7-tatami HP062J takes 30 minutes for 7 tatami, so per tatami the HP162J is about twice as fast (17 ÷ 8 = 2.1 minutes, 30 ÷ 7 = 4.3).

Next, upkeep. With no humidifier, the only thing to wash is the pre-filter. Placed in a living room, it asks for little. That is its strength.

If you can't decide, take the HP162J. The reason: for JPY 39,600 it covers 15 tatami and the HEPA filter is rated for six years.

Manufacturer figures as of Oct 26, 2026, with my subtraction and division. +46% = 1.2 ÷ 2.6, +33% = 9,900 ÷ 29,700.

Both are in the same BreatheClear series, with the same six-year HEPA and display. The difference is room size and the airflow to drive it.

At JPY 31 per kWh, running 32W for 24 hours costs about JPY 24 (0.032 × 24 × 31 = 23.8). The HP062J at 18W costs about JPY 13 (0.018 × 24 × 31 = 13.4).

Strengths and things to note

Strengths

Little upkeep. Just wash the pre-filter every two months. A HEPA filter rated for six years helps anyone who dislikes buying filters.

You can see the air change. A color display and daily and weekly reports let you check the effect by eye.

Things to note

It cannot humidify. If you want humidity in winter, add a separate humidifier. It is not on sale yet, so you may want to wait for real-world noise reports.

Who is it for?

People who want a low-effort purifier for a 10 to 15 tatami living room, and people who do not want to buy filters every year. In a bedroom or kids' room, sleep mode lowers the noise and screen brightness.

For rooms up to 7 tatami, the 2.6kg HP062J is another way to choose.

Price and where to buy

The expected market price is JPY 39,600 tax included, and preorders have opened at SharkNinja's official Rakuten store. Over six years, the unit costs about JPY 18 a day (39,600 ÷ 2,190 days).

If you can't decide, take the HP162J. The reason: it covers 15 tatami and upkeep is just a pre-filter wash every two months.
