【Oct 2026 Update】Best Humidifiers in Japan: Three Fall 2026 Releases Compared by Room Size
Pick a humidifier by matching its output to your room, and you won't go wrong. The Dainichi HD-LX1026 (Aug 27, 2026) puts out 960 mL per hour, the Zojirushi EE-TC60 (Sep 2026) 600 mL, and the compact EE-MC20 200 mL. For a living room, take the Dainichi. For a bedroom or study, take the small Zojirushi.
Key points
- Release order: Dainichi HD-LX1026 (Aug 27), then Zojirushi EE-TC60 and EE-MC20 (Sep 2026)
- Output is 960, 600 and 200 mL/h. Per tatami mat (prefab room) that is about 35.6, 35.3 and 33.3 mL/h, so output scales with room size
- All three have no list price from the maker (open price)
Which humidifier? Start with room size and how often you clean it
The most common mistake is buying a unit that's too small for the room. If output falls short, humidity never rises, even if it runs all day.
These are three models released between late August and September 2026, in release order. As an IT consultant, I read the conditions behind a number before the number itself, so I put output, room size and tank size in one table and divided them.
The short answer: Dainichi HD-LX1026 for the living room, Zojirushi EE-TC60 if you want steam, Zojirushi EE-MC20 for a bedroom or study.
Three yardsticks: output, upkeep, running cost
Output (mL per hour) sets the largest room a unit can handle. Upkeep means how you wash the tank and filter. Running cost I calculated wherever the maker lists power use.
| Criterion | Winner | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Large rooms | Dainichi HD-LX1026 | 960 mL/h, up to 27 tatami (prefab), 7L tank |
| Easy upkeep | Dainichi HD-LX1026 | Filter slides out for cleaning; tray cover is replaceable |
| Steam output | Zojirushi EE-TC60 | Boils water for steam. 600 mL/h, up to 17 tatami |
| Small rooms, power bill | Zojirushi EE-MC20 | 190W while humidifying (standard), about 30 dB in quiet mode |
Release order: dates and numbers
| Model | Release date (Japan) | Output | Room size (prefab) | Tank | Rakuten listing price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dainichi HD-LX1026 | Aug 27, 2026 | 960 mL/h | Up to 27 tatami | 7L | JPY 40,238 |
| Zojirushi EE-TC60 | Sep 2026 | 600 mL/h | Up to 17 tatami | 4.0L | JPY 29,480 |
| Zojirushi EE-MC20 | Sep 2026 | 200 mL/h | Up to 6 tatami | 1.8L | JPY 17,380 |
Dainichi HD-LX1026: the living-room pick, 960 mL/h hybrid
This top model in Dainichi's 25-model 2026 lineup went on sale Aug 27, 2026. Output is 960 mL/h on standard, size is 390 x 289 x 405 mm (W x D x H), and it weighs about 6.5 kg.
New this year: an antibacterial air filter you slide sideways to clean, and a tray cover you replace instead of washing the tray. Eco mode runs evaporative-only to save power.
Divide the Rakuten price of JPY 40,238 by 960 and you get about JPY 41.9 per mL/h. That is the best value of the three.

Zojirushi EE-TC60: a high-output steam model
A steam humidifier from September 2026. It outputs 600 mL/h, holds 4.0L and covers up to 17 tatami in a prefab room. Continuous run time is about 6 hours on high and about 20 hours on low (quiet).
It draws 450W while humidifying, which costs about JPY 14 per hour (0.45 kW x JPY 31/kWh). The JPY 31 is my assumed rate, so recalculate with your own tariff.

Zojirushi EE-MC20: a small unit for bedrooms and desks
Also released in September 2026. It outputs 200 mL/h, holds 1.8L and runs about 8 hours on standard and about 16 hours in quiet mode. At 20 x 23 x 26.5 cm and about 2.0 kg, it fits on a desk corner.
Power use is 190W on standard and 134W on quiet, or about JPY 5.9 per hour (0.19 x 31). Quiet mode is about 30 dB, a good level for a bedroom.

What I like, and what to watch
What I like
Dainichi: one unit covers a big room, and the new parts cut upkeep. Zojirushi EE-TC60: steam output works well in a cold room. Zojirushi EE-MC20: small and quiet, it won't crowd a bedroom.
What to watch
The two steam models boil water, so they draw more power and get hot. If you have small children or pets, think about where to put them. The EE-MC20's 6-tatami limit is too small for a living room.
Which one should you buy?
Output per tatami is nearly the same across all three, about 33 to 36 mL/h (960 / 27, 600 / 17, 200 / 6). The models are simply scaled to room size. Match the size to your room, then decide on upkeep and running cost.
If you can't decide, buy the Dainichi HD-LX1026: 960 mL/h covers a large room, and the filter is easier to clean.
