The LinkBuds Clip is Sony's first ear-cuff model, made to be worn all day

Earphones that leave your ears open let you hear your surroundings on the commute and at your desk. The LinkBuds Clip is Sony's first in the ear-cuff style.

The included fitting cushion lets you tune the fit to your ear. The buds come in four colors, and case covers sold separately come in five.

As an IT consultant (SE), I read the footnote before the headline number. Both the 9 hours and the 37 hours are the maker's figures, and they change with volume and temperature.

How I judged it

First, fast charging. Three minutes gives an hour of use, or 20 minutes of playback per minute (60 ÷ 3). If you forget to charge in the morning, three minutes before you leave adds half a commute both ways.

Next, the listening modes. "Leak Reduction" cuts the sound that escapes to people around you in quiet places such as an elevator or a train. The modes cover the weak spot of open-ear designs.

If you can't decide, take the LinkBuds Clip. The reason: an hour from 3 minutes of charging, and a sound you can change for each situation.

Makers' figures as of Oct 26, 2026. Minutes of playback per minute of charging: Sony about 20, HUAWEI about 18, Panasonic 4.

Battery life ties with the HUAWEI and beats the Panasonic by 2 hours (about 29%). On water resistance, the HUAWEI's IP57 is higher than the Sony's IPX4.

Sony's strengths are the three modes that change the sound by situation, and how fast a short charge pays off.

Strengths and things to note

Strengths

Fast charging. An hour from 3 minutes is quick enough to rescue you right before you go out.

Sound that changes by situation. Voice Boost in noisy places, Leak Reduction in quiet ones, switched by tapping.

Things to note

Because your ears stay open, there is no noise cancelling. The case is not splash-proof, so keep it dry in the rain. The price is open and varies by shop.

Who is it for?

People who listen to music while hearing their surroundings on the commute or at work. People whose ears tire with noise cancelling. It also suits anyone who wants to pick color and shape like an accessory.

On days you want the train noise muted, sealed earbuds are another way to choose.

Price and where to buy

It is an open price, and on Rakuten shops such as Biccamera list it in the JPY 20,000s. Over a year, that is about JPY 57 a day (20,953 ÷ 365).

If you can't decide, take the LinkBuds Clip. The reason: up to about 9 hours, an hour from 3 minutes of charging, and a leak-reduction mode together.
