Ear-cuff earbuds leave your ears open and weigh only 5 to 6g a side. Judge them by battery per charge, fast charging and water resistance. The Sony LinkBuds Clip (Feb 6, 2026) plays up to about 9 hours, and 3 minutes of charging gives an hour.

Key points

  • Release order: Sony LinkBuds Clip (Feb 6, 2026), Panasonic RB-C10 (late Jul 2026), HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S (Oct 16, 2026)
  • Per-charge playback: Sony about 9 hours, HUAWEI about 9 hours, Panasonic about 7 hours
  • Weight per bud: Panasonic about 5.5g, HUAWEI 5.1g. The 0.4g gap is about 7% of the Panasonic

Which ear-cuff earbuds? Battery per charge and fast charging decide it

Earbuds that leave your ears open work on a train and at home while you talk with family. The trade-off is a small battery in a tiny body.

As an IT consultant (SE), I read the footnote before the headline number. So I separated playback from the buds alone and playback with the case.

Three models released in 2026. The short answer: the Sony LinkBuds Clip, for its fast charging and sound-leak reduction.

Three yardsticks: per-charge battery, fast charging, weight

YardstickWinnerWhy
Per-charge batterySony LinkBuds Clip, HUAWEI FreeClip 2 SAbout 9 hours each, 2 hours more than the Panasonic's 7 (about 29%)
Fast chargingHUAWEI FreeClip 2 S3 hours from 10 minutes. Sony: 1 hour from 3 minutes. Panasonic: 60 minutes from 15
WeightHUAWEI FreeClip 2 S5.1g a side, 0.4g lighter than the Panasonic's 5.5g
Picked by me per yardstick from the makers' releases and pages. 29% = 2 ÷ 7. The Sony is left out of the weight ranking because no weight is listed.

Fast charging is easier to compare as minutes of playback per minute of charging: Sony about 20 (60 ÷ 3), HUAWEI about 18 (180 ÷ 10), Panasonic 4 (60 ÷ 15).

Sony LinkBuds Clip: an hour from 3 minutes, with sound-leak reduction

Released Feb 6, 2026, it is Sony's first ear-cuff model. It has three modes, Standard, Voice Boost and Leak Reduction, so you can switch by situation.

Up to about 9 hours per charge and about 37 hours with the case. Three minutes in the case gives an hour of playback. It is IPX4 splash-resistant, though the case is not.

Panasonic RB-C10: about 5.5g and an easy price

Panasonic announced it for late July 2026, an accessory-like design with an 11mm driver and a shape-memory alloy bridge that adapts to your ear.

Seven hours per charge, up to about 26 hours with the case. It pairs with two devices at once, handy if you switch between a PC and a phone, and has a "polite" mode that cuts sound leakage.

HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S: 5.1g and IP57, the lightest of the three

Released Oct 16, 2026, it is Huawei's first flagship ear-cuff model. The buds weigh 5.1g and are rated IP57 against dust and water, so sweat and sudden rain are fine.

About 9 hours per charge and up to 38 hours with the case. Ten minutes of charging gives 3 hours. It suits people who pick earbuds as an accessory, mirror-finish case included.

Strengths and things to note

Strengths

Sony: 3-minute fast charging and a leak-reduction mode. Panasonic: two-device pairing and about 5.5g suit a work day. HUAWEI: 5.1g and IP57 in one package.

Things to note

Ear-cuff earbuds leave your ears open, so there is no noise cancelling. On days you want quiet, sealed earbuds fit better. The Panasonic's 7 hours is the shortest of the three.

Which one should you buy?

For commuting and work breaks: Sony LinkBuds Clip. A lower price to start: Panasonic RB-C10. Lightness and water resistance first: HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S.

If you can't decide, take the Sony LinkBuds Clip. The reason: 9 hours per charge, and 3 minutes of charging still buys an hour.
