The Sharp IB-WX903 went on sale in Japan on October 22, 2026, priced at JPY 46,200 on Sharp's COCORO STORE. It reads the moisture around your hair five times a second and switches from hot to mild cool air before your hair gets too dry. Compared with the IB-WX902, you pay JPY 2,200 more and carry 35g more.

You dry your hair properly every night, yet the ends still feel rough. If over-drying is the cause, the IB-WX903 is worth buying.
It measures water vapor around your hair five times a second and the distance to your hair 20 times a second. Once moisture drops, it switches from hot air to a gentle cool flow. Sharp claims this Dry Assist mode is an industry first.
As a software engineer, I learned to read the footnotes before the headline numbers. Here, the airflow figure hasn't changed from the previous model. The only real difference is when the dryer decides to stop.
My verdict
The first thing I checked was airflow: about 7.4 m³/min at 1200W, exactly the same as the IB-WX902. If you just want faster drying, there's little reason to upgrade.
I still recommend it, because the machine stops the over-drying for you. Hair protection pays off with every use, so daily users gain the most. Spread over a year of daily use, the JPY 2,200 gap is about JPY 6 a day (2,200 ÷ 365).
Can't decide? Get the IB-WX903. Same airflow, smarter stopping, and only JPY 2,200 more.

The airflow is the same. Sharp added a sensor, smarter control and a nozzle, and the extra 35g most likely comes from those parts.
In Sharp's test, the IB-RP9 (2022, no Drape Flow) took 8.38 minutes on average and the IB-WX901 (2023) took 5.47 minutes. Sharp rates the IB-WX903 as equal to the IB-WX901, so the 2.91-minute gap is where "about 35% faster" comes from (2.91 ÷ 8.38).
What I like, and what to watch
What I like
It decides when to stop. If you keep checking by hand whether your hair is dry, the ends keep taking heat. Reading moisture and switching to cool air trims that last minute.
About 99% less static. In Sharp's test, five seconds of warm air dropped static from 52kV to 0.077kV. That matters if your hair puffs up in winter.
What to watch
At about 550g, this is not a light dryer. If your arms tire easily, weigh that against the 515g IB-WX902. Drying speed itself is the same as the 902.
Who is it for?
People who dry long hair thoroughly every day, and anyone bothered by frizzy ends or static. Families sharing one dryer also benefit, since the app lets you change how each mode works.
If fast drying is all you need, a discounted IB-WX902 is a reasonable alternative.
Price and where to buy
The benchmark is JPY 46,200 on COCORO STORE. On Rakuten Ichiba, authorized electronics retailers carry it. Over three years, that works out to about JPY 42 a day (46,200 ÷ 1,095 days).
Can't decide? Get the IB-WX903. The only difference from the 902 is the over-drying control, and it costs just JPY 2,200 more.
